The “Vitosha Stone River” project concept focuses on the symbiosis between untamed nature and man-made green spaces, blending them into a unified whole. In contrast to the vibrant, abundant vegetation, the design incorporates architectural park elements, such as a concrete cascade and water features. The spaces are thoughtfully designed to provide various amenities for family relaxation.

Design Elements Inspired by Nature

The sculptural concrete β€˜moraines’ and corten steel water cascade are recurring elements throughout the garden. They serve as a metaphor for the Vitosha moraines, combining visual appeal with functionality. These elements act as retaining walls, offering an elegant solution to the nearly 5-meter elevation difference between the main level and the entrance platform to the house.

The garden is a place for visual enjoyment, offering opportunities for fun, relaxation, and quiet moments of solitude. The design includes a spa area with a jacuzzi, surrounded by a water cascade, lush perennials, and shrubs. At the opposite end of the garden, in a forest-like setting of trees, ferns, and irises, a swing nook enhances the peaceful atmosphere. A green wall along the northwest façade serves as a striking visual element as you approach the garden.

Landscaping Inspired by Forest Flora

The garden’s vegetation consists primarily of ornamental grasses and woodland perennials. Species such as Japanese grass (Hakonechloa macra), Siberian iris (Iris sibirica), various hostas (Hosta spp.), and ferns have been selected to replicate the lower forest plant layer.

To further enhance the “wild” nature of the garden, contrasting materials are used for the retaining walls and pathways. These include materials like concrete, corten steel, and textured outdoor granite tiles. Wooden elements, such as benches and furniture, soften the design and introduce warmth and comfort.

The “Vitosha Stone River” project strikes a balance between functionality and natural aesthetics, drawing inspiration from the unique Vitosha landscape. It seamlessly integrates mountain nature into a modern urban garden, creating a tranquil retreat in the heart of the city.
